What is shackle?

Shackle is a kind of rigging. The shackles are commonly divided into three types: Chinese national standard, American standard, and Japanese standard; the American standard is the most widely used because of its small size and large load capacity.

According to type, shackles can be divided into G209 (BW), G210 (DW), G2130 (BX), G2150 (DX). Which is also be known as bow (omega) shackle and D (U or straight) Type) shackle; it can be divided into marine and land use according to the place of use. The safety factor can be 4 times, 5 times, 6 times, and even 8 times (such as the Swedish GUNNEBO Super Shackle). The material is commonly carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, high-strength steel, etc. Surface treatment is generally divided into galvanizing (hot-dip and electric galvanization), painting, Dacormet plating.

Rated load of shackle: The common American standard shackle specifications are 0.33T, 0.5T, 0.75T, 1T, 1.5T, 2T, 3.25T, 4.75T, 6.5T, 8.5T, 9.5T, 12T, 13.5T , 17T, 25T, 35T, 55T, 85T, 120T, 150T. (At present, the world’s largest shackle can reach more than 1000T, of which the Swedish GUNNEBO heavy shackle can reach 1200T, and the US CROSBY shackle can reach 1500T. Domestic ones can also achieve 1500T).

Shackles are widely used in various industries such as electric power, metallurgy, petroleum, machinery, railway, chemical industry, port, mining, construction and so on. At present, the better shackles are generally made of alloy steel, the performance of which had been greatly improved than the shackles made of carbon steel.
