Definitions and materials

The rim is commonly known as the rim, which is a component that installs and supports the tire on the periphery of the wheel, and forms the wheel with the spokes. The rims and spokes may be integral, permanently connected, or detachable.

Classification

There are two common forms of rims: deep groove rims and flat bottom rims; there are also split rims, semi-deep groove rims, deep groove wide rims, flat bottom wide rims, and fully inclined bottom rims.

Deep groove rim
This rim is integral and has a deep groove in the middle of its cross section. Mainly used in cars and light off-road vehicles. It has a flange with a shoulder to place the bead of the tire. The shoulder is usually slightly inclined to the middle, and the inclination angle is generally 4 to 6 degrees. The maximum diameter of the inclined part is called the tire bead and rim. Suitable diameter. A deep groove is made in the middle of the section to facilitate the disassembly of the tire. Deep groove wheels have a simple structure, high rigidity, and low mass. They are most suitable for tires with small dimensions and high elasticity. However, larger and stiffer tires are difficult to fit into such integral rims.

Flat bottom rim
There are many structural forms of such rims, as shown in Figure 3, which is a commonly used form of trucks in China. The retaining ring 1 is integral, and an open elastic locking ring 2 is used to prevent the retaining ring from coming out. When installing a tire, first put the tire on the rim, then put a retaining ring on it, and push it inward until it passes the annular groove on the rim, and then insert the open elastic lock ring into the annular groove.

Split rim
This rim is composed of two parts, the inner and outer wheels. The widths of the inner and outer wheels can be the same or different. The two are bolted together. When disassembling or disassembling the tire, the nut can be removed. Some have no retaining ring, but a rim made integral with the inner rim replaces the role of the retaining ring. The inner rim and the spoke are welded together.
Since the rim is the foundation for fixing and fixing the tire, when the tire is mounted on different rims, its deformation position and size also change. Therefore, it is best to use a specified standard rim for each type of tire, and if necessary, a rim (allowable rim) with a size similar to that of the standard tire. If the rim is not selected properly, it will cause early tire damage, especially when used on a narrow rim.
