A three-winding transformer has three windings on each phase. When one winding is connected to AC power, the other two windings induce different potentials. Definition

A three-winding transformer has three windings on each phase. When one winding is connected to AC power, the other two windings induce different potentials. This transformer is used for loads that require two different voltage levels. Power plants and substations usually have three different levels of voltage, so three-winding transformers are widely used in power systems. The high, middle and low voltage windings of each phase are sleeved on the same iron core. For reasonable insulation use, high voltage windings are usually placed on the outermost layer, and medium and low voltage windings are placed on the inner layer.

Function and role

The three-winding transformer is most commonly used in power systems. The three-phase three-winding transformer usually adopts Y-Y- △ connection, that is, the primary and secondary windings are both Y-connected, and the third winding is connected as △. The △ connection method itself is a closed loop, allowing the third-phase harmonic current in the same phase to pass, so that the third-harmonic voltage does not appear in the Y-connected primary and secondary windings. In this way, it can provide a neutral point for both the primary and secondary sides. In a long-distance power transmission system, the third winding can also be connected to a camera to increase the power factor of the line.

Structure

The rated capacity refers to the capacity of the winding with the largest capacity. The percentage of the general capacity is divided into three forms: high, middle, and low voltage windings.
