A shell transformer is a transformer made of a shell core. Although some advantages of shell transformers in performance are not as good as heart-shaped transformers, for transformers with very small power, because there is only one wire package and the structure is relatively simple, they are still widely used in transformers with low power.
1.Efficient: High magnetic permeability core and pure copper coil make the transformer more efficient.
2.Durable: High quality materials and good heat dissipation make the transformer more durable.
3.Quiet: Silicon steel sheet and windings are set seamlessly, which makes the transformer quiet whenit is working.
Shell core structure has the following characteristics: (1) The core laminated sheet of each capacity has only one sheet width, so the processing is relatively convenient.
(2) Because the cross section of the iron core is rectangular, the cross section of the windings that are matched with it should also be rectangular, and the area between the wire cakes is large. Therefore, the impact potential distribution in the winding can be improved.
(3) The leads of the shell-type power transformer are all on the upper part, so the wiring is convenient, which is more convenient for the three-phase three-winding and autotransformer.
(4) If the winding is tight between the winding and the iron core, and between the winding and the fuel tank, the entire transformer can be transported down.
(5) A special three-phase transformer can be composed of three single-phase iron cores, which can be made into a large-capacity transformer used in power plants or substations that are difficult to transport. A special three-phase transformer is a transformer that carries three single-phase transformers to the construction site and installs a common box cover and bushing. With this structure, for the shell core, the mass of the silicon steel sheet added is not much, and the quality of the winding is unchanged.
(6) When a large current flows in the low-voltage winding, the additional loss caused by the current is small because the winding is surrounded by the core.
(7) The line cake is placed vertically, and the oil flow is relatively smooth, so the temperature rise of the line cake is not high.
(8) Because the windings are composed of double pie, the grouping of the windings is more convenient. At the same time, the required values can be obtained from different groups when adjusting the impedance voltage, magnetic leakage and short circuit mechanical force.
The core of a shell transformer is like the shell of a body. There is always a core or yoke on either side of any winding on the structure. Generally, the core winding is placed vertically, and the shell winding is placed horizontally.
1.Single-phase shell transformer core Its structure is shown in the figure below. It has two branch iron cores 2, and the width of the middle iron core is the sum of the widths of the two iron cores. Put all the windings on the iron core in the middle, and two branch iron cores surround the outer side of the winding, like a “shell”, hence the name of the shell-type transformer.
2.Three-phase shell transformer core Its structure is shown in the figure below. It can be seen as consisting of three independent single-phase shell-type transformers arranged together.
