Definition

A hydro-generator is a generator that uses a water turbine as a prime mover to convert water energy into electricity. When water flows through the turbine, it converts the water energy into mechanical energy, and the rotating shaft of the turbine drives the rotor of the generator to convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy and output it. It is the main power equipment for generating electricity in hydropower stations.

Features

1. Turbine and generator are integrated, which is more easy to install and maintain

2. Hydraulic direct drive generator, without more drive mechanism and efficiency is much higher, Extremely low failure rate.

3. Auto voltage rectifier is installed within generator, the voltage is more stable.

4. Optional single-phase voltage 220-240V or 3-phase voltage 380V-415V. The generator’s unique voltage excitation design, be suitable for provide long-distance voltage transmission.

5. Mainly used in: mountainous water sources sufficient and water head more than 8 meters.

Advantage

① The energy storage power station mainly plays the role of peak regulation and valley filling in the power grid, and the units start and stop frequently. The structure of the generator motor must fully consider its recurring centrifugal force, which causes fatigue to the structural materials and thermal changes and thermal expansion on the stator and rotor windings. The stator often uses thermoelastic insulation;

② The fan on the rotor of the conventional hydro-generator for reversible generator motors cannot meet the requirements of heat dissipation and cooling, and external fans are generally used for large-capacity and high-speed units;

③ When the thrust bearing and the guide bearing rotate in the forward and reverse directions, the oil film cannot be damaged;

④ The structure is closely related to the starting mode. A special motor is installed on the coaxial when the starting motor is used. When the speed of the generator motor needs to be changed, in addition to changing the phase of the power supply, the stator windings must be changed and the rotor must be pole changed.

Classification

The hydro-generator can be divided into vertical and horizontal according to the position of the axis. Large and medium-sized units are generally arranged vertically, and horizontal arrangements are usually used for small units and cross-flow units. Vertical hydro-generators are divided into suspension type and umbrella type according to the guide bearing support method. Umbrella type hydro generator is divided into ordinary umbrella type, half umbrella type and full umbrella type according to different positions of the guide bearing on the upper and lower frames. Suspension hydro-generator has better stability than umbrella type, smaller thrust bearing, less loss, convenient installation and maintenance, but more steel consumption. The overall height of the umbrella unit is low, which can reduce the height of the hydropower plant building. Horizontal hydro-generators are generally used when the rotation speed is greater than 375r / min, and some small-capacity power stations.

Mini hydro turbine generator <100 750-1500
Small hydro generator 100-500 <375 375-600 750-1500
Medium-sized water turbine generator 500-10000 <375 375-600 750-1500
Large hydro-generator> 10000 <100 100-375> 375

Basic structure

The hydro-generator consists of rotor, stator, frame, thrust bearing, guide bearing, cooler, brake and other main components. The stator is mainly composed of a base, an iron core, and a winding. The stator core is stacked with cold-rolled silicon steel sheets, and can be made into a whole and split structure according to manufacturing and transportation conditions. Generally, the cooling method of the hydro-generator adopts closed circulating air cooling. Very large capacity units tend to use water as the cooling medium to directly cool the stator. If the stator and rotor are cooled at the same time, it is a double-water internally cooled hydro-generator set.
