Definition

Flame-retardant cable refers to a cable that is burned under the specified test conditions. After the test source of fire is removed, the flame spread is only within a limited range, and the residual flame or residual ignition can extinguish itself within a limited time. The basic characteristic is that it may be burned out and unable to operate in a fire situation, but it can prevent the fire from spreading. Generally speaking, in the event of a fire, the electric wire can limit the combustion to a local range, without spreading, retaining other various equipment and avoiding greater losses.

Features

(1) Dual wall insulation, electron beam cross-linked.

(2) Resistance to UV, water, ozone, fluids, salt, general weathering.

(3) Halogen free, flame, retardant, low toxicity.

(4) Flexibility and stripping performance.

(5) Resistance to abrasion.

(6) High current carrying capacity.

Classification

According to the flame retardant materials of cables, flame retardant cables are divided into halogenated flame retardant cables and halogen-free low smoke flame retardant cables.

The insulation layer, sheath, outer sheath and auxiliary materials (bagging and filling) of halogen-containing flame-retardant cables are all or partly made of halogen-containing polyethylene (PVC) flame-retardant materials, so they have good flame-retardant properties. However, when the cable burns, a large amount of dense smoke and halogen acid gas will be released. The halogen acid gas is corrosive to the surrounding electrical equipment. Rescue personnel need to wear a gas mask to approach the scene to extinguish the fire. When the cable burns, it will cause harm to the surrounding electrical equipment and rescue workers, which is not conducive to fire fighting and rescue work, which will cause serious “secondary hazard”. The halogen-free low-smoke flame-retardant cable’s insulation layer, sheath, outer sheath and auxiliary materials (tape and filling) are all or partly made of halogen-free cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) flame-retardant materials, not only having Better flame retardant characteristics, and no halogen acid gas is emitted when the cable is burned, and the amount of smoke from the cable is small. The corrosive gas generated by the cable combustion is also a compromise between the flame retardancy of the cable and the reduction of the amount of halogen acid gas. Has developed a low-halogen, low-smoke flame-retardant cable. Its halogen content is about 1/3 of halogen-containing flame-retardant cables. The amount of smoke is also close to the recognized “low smoke” level.
